Great post, Kate. It is absolutely true that those we associate with influence us greatly. In fact, I've read that you can tell what your future looks like by looking at those you associate with.

Another example is the year Sammy Sosa topped the Babe's record of 60 home runs in one season with his own 62 home runs. But the record wasn't his that year because Mark McGuire hit 64. Did each man push the other to performance beyond what would have been achieved without the mutual influence?

If I had to loose I rather loose to the best too. I enjoy being around people who understand what training is about. When the people around you continue to parrot "moderation" you know your with a bunch who accept mediocrity as the norm. In reality if you want to be world class moderation is exactly what you must avoid.

I can sure relate to this. It has caused some friction in my life (avoiding those that continually complain/critize... about the same things over and over) If I can't avoid the crowd I try to change the subject. It is negative/unproductive.

I may not like losing, but if I’m going to lose, I’d rather lose to the best. Great thought.

I don't care about losing it's about the experience.

Well, you are getting your quota a posts from me today. I was having your site close on me when I hit the comment key. Probably me doing something out of order.

In my first post (that didn't get registered for some reason) I said your observation about time of peak performance brought to mind the book by Malcolm Gladwell "Outliers" which covers the same idea.

Anyway, your ideas about fostering excellence are very useful.

Indeed, I have some dear friends whom I used to be much closer with who have SUCH employee mentalities that it is almost a problem when we do hang out together. We have entirely different interests and values, and I am hearing of the same problem they have had and done nothing about for over 10 yrs. I care about them... however I want to have the stimulation of hanging with other race horse stallions so I run free as well as push myself.

We all have problems. I just try to have different ones now that I had 10 yrs ago. Plus I find there is a lot they want me to help them with where they also have no intention of paying me for my time or even writing me a testimonial. A whole bunch of things. For me? Lessons well-learned recently.

Like with (often women are in this position) single women in a caring relationship which is going nowhere when what she wants is to be and feel cherished and to get married. Kiss him. Bless him, And send him on his way with a loving intention and seek what you want and we will attract and find it.

Happy Dating and Relationships,
